Bevelyn Coleman Joins Regions Legal Team

As Deputy General Counsel, Coleman will provide legal support to the Consumer Banking Group.

By Candace Higginbotham | January 28, 2021

Bevelyn Coleman joined the Regions Legal Department as Deputy General Counsel on January 19. An experienced attorney specializing in banking, Bevelyn will be working closely with the Consumer Banking Group within Regions. This group provides personal banking products and services to customers, such as checking and savings accounts, mortgage and other consumer loans, financial education, and more. In her new role, Bevelyn will help that team achieve its business objectives and meet the banking needs of our customers and the communities we serve.

Bevelyn comes to Regions from Wells Fargo, where she was Executive Vice President, Deputy General Counsel, and served on the bank’s Management Committee and its Enterprise Diversity and Inclusion Council.

“We’re very fortunate to have someone with Bevelyn’s depth of experience on our team,” says Regions Chief Legal Officer Tara Plimpton. “She is widely respected in the industry and has a thorough understanding of the challenges banks face. She will be a terrific partner to our Legal team and groups across the company.”

Tara recently realigned the department so that each business and support area in the bank has a dedicated legal partner. This structure is appealing to Bevelyn and plays to her strengths. “I thrive in a dynamic, collaborative environment,” she says. “Working closely with a dedicated business is exciting because I’ll get to know the team well and play an active role in helping them achieve their goals. The Consumer Bank is particularly interesting to me because I ‘grew up’ in consumer banking and have spent a great deal of my career in that area.”

Bevelyn has received a number of professional honors and recognitions throughout her career, including 2017 Who’s Who in Black Charlotte, the 2017 North Carolina Women’s History Month Leadership Award,  2016 America’s Most Honored Professionals, 2015 Most Influential Black Lawyers Corporate Counsel, and has been selected among the top 100 female U.S. Attorneys by InsideCounsel magazine several years running. She serves on the Board of Directors of Central Piedmont Community College’s Paralegal Technology Advisory Committee and is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

An avid sports fan and Charlotte Hornets season ticket holder, Bevelyn also enjoys ballroom dancing and spending time with her 10 godchildren.
