ALEXANDRIA, La. – Feb. 12, 2020 – For years, the facility helped deliver financial services. Now, it will support vital education services.
On Wednesday, Regions Bank formally donated one of the company’s Alexandria branch properties to Central Louisiana Technical Community College (CLTCC). The former branch at the corner of Jackson and Sixth Streets downtown is just half a block north of CLTCC’s state-of-the-art Career and Technical Education Training Campus.
“Regions Bank is committed to serving Rapides Parish, and one of the most powerful ways we can make a difference is by helping advance education and workforce readiness in our community,” said Eric Lord, Alexandria Market Executive for Regions. “CLTCC is home to many of the finest educators in Central Louisiana, and they are working every day to prepare students for high-wage, high-skill and high-demand careers. What’s happening today is not just a donation; it’s an investment in the future for CLTCC students and the local employers that are hiring CLTCC graduates.”
Regions continues to operate three branches serving Rapides Parish, including two in Alexandria and one in Pineville. The donation of the former downtown branch at 803 Sixth St. was formalized during the community college system’s Wednesday board meeting in Baton Rouge.
“This property will support our focus on delivering thorough, rapid, flexible and innovative training that supports Central Louisiana’s workforce and economy,” said CLTCC Chancellor Jimmy Sawtelle. “During their time at CLTCC, students not only become proficient in areas such as healthcare, business administration, construction, industrial maintenance, and more – they also discover rewarding career paths right here at home. Regions’ commitment to supporting education will open new doors of possibility as we reach more students from throughout Central Louisiana.”
CLTCC gives students the opportunity to earn certificates, diplomas, and associate degrees. Last fall, the college moved its operations from MacArthur Drive to a modern facility at the corner of Desoto and Sixth Streets. Currently, administrators are finalizing plans for how to best leverage the former Regions branch facility and parking lot, just across Desoto from the main CLTCC building. Customer-service operations at the former Regions branch were absorbed into other, nearby Regions locations in August 2019.
